Ephemeral Existence
How can we find meaning in our lives? What is worth pursuing in our world? How can artists work together in collaboration? What is the agora of art and discourse in our contemporary world?
Ephemeral Existence is the culmination of artwork by twenty-five artists working and communicating from across the globe; connected during an alumni artist residency program offered through the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. The meaningful discussions and critiques during the residencies fostered a sense of community. Recent turbulent political times fueled a desire among the creatives to continue collaborating as a community. With artists living in different countries, a virtual network was born.
The artists quickly recognized the power of their newfound connection. Over a couple of months, they “teleported” their ideas into an exciting exhibition in physical space. Standing for community and valuing the opinions and perspectives of each other, Teleportal's first exhibition has been curated, developed, and installed through a collaborative effort. The result is a collection of passionate visual stories about social and political concerns, relationships, identity, memory, and more, told through several cultural and generational lenses. The coalescing creates a unique conversation between the artists using a variety of media such as painting, drawing, photography, video, interactive installation, and sculpture. Inspired by and created for this exhibition, these artworks are vehicles for, and a tribute to, stories of individual and collective existence.
